one thing i need in the last few chapters of saezuru, is there will be a scene where yashiro asks doumeki “Does it hurt?” ( ‘it’ being anything, maybe physical or emotional) and THIS time doumeki will actually say “Yes, it hurts”.
the end.

Saezuru Tori wa Habatakanai - thoughts on happy ever after
More than a “happy end” I’d love stories and their characters to have a “happy start”. Maybe that’s why fairy tales end with the phrase “And they lived happily ever after”. Because it is the “ever after” that matters.
And I am looking forward to how Yoneda Sensei will end Saezuru. I am looking forward to this happy start in the canon story and their happily ever after that will be up to my imagination where the world of fiction extends and maybe from some extras after the last chapter.
When I first read Saezuru and I was on about 3 chapters, I remember thinking “This man should have a chance to get out of the yakuza.” And that has not changed until now. I still stand by that dream of an ending. So here goes my thoughts:
Yashiro should be able to get out of the Yakuza. The world and the heavens should give him that chance and realization that life will not always be “no choice” or “no other path”. That in this life there will be other paths less thorny and less darker. That he has bravely and strongly walked through life and he deserves to see the light at the end of the tunnel.
Ending it with Yashiro out of the Yakuza and with the happy start and a hope of a new life is a good enough ending. But it is a better one if that will be topped off with him and Doumeki being able to live together. Out of the yakuza and together. Them being together does not necessarily mean that love will solve all and heal all. It is going to be a long road and long process for them but it is the matter of learning together and being there for each other and not being alone that will give it a happy note. It is a learning process and yet another journey for Yashiro to learn how to love another person, express his emotions fully and healthily, let go whatever baggage he needs to let go and most of all to love himself and treasure himself. Yashiro needs to be able to feel again without pain and just savor all the little pleasures life and love can bring. Little by little, slowly, gradually, step by step, hand in hand with the person who loves him unconditionally - Doumeki. And Doumeki as well will find peace and happiness with his bright and warm sun beside him. That is what I have always thought about as a happy ever after.
What will they do when they’re out of yakuza. That’s what life has to show to Yashiro.. that there are more paths that life now has to offer. It will not always be dark and “no other path” for him. Like he and Doumeki can open a flower shop and sell and arrange flowers or a bakery or a cafe or do stocks. Or they can just get a house near the sea, when they’re bored they can go and frolic on the seaside, chase each other and laugh or they can get pets and play frisbee.
I have always wished and thought of Saezuru as a story of hope and redemption. A damned soul saved. A frozen heart revived. A broken human restored piece by piece. And so I still hope that their past is enough tragedy already for this story to be categorized as tragic. Their present and future hold so much hope. It may not necessarily be a happy fluffy one in a conventional sense but I am still positive that it will end on a “hopeful” note.

Okay Saezuru fandom, here comes the full summary of the new chapter. Please note that I didn’t warn you for nothing in my last post, so don’t open the full text unless you are prepared for some really depressing scenes.
I’m emotionally and physically exhausted from writing this monster of a post for the past 5(?) hours, so there are probably still some mistakes here and there which I might edit later or tomorrow or never.
Chapter 35 is announced for January 31st, 2019, so at least we won’t have to wait for four months after this mother of all cliff-hangers that is awaiting you behind the cut:
This is the biggest chapter since Chapter 25. While 25 had the romantic culmination, this one had the plot culmination. And some shit went down. Please read @domeyashiro‘s summary here to know wtf I’m bullet-pointing about and crying over. This is long and spoilery, so I’m putting it behind a cut.
